Commercial Kitchen Extraction Systems

At Extractor Experts, we specialise in the design, supply, installation, repair, and maintenance of commercial kitchen extraction systems for businesses across the UK. Our bespoke extraction solutions efficiently remove smoke, grease, heat, steam, and cooking odours, creating a cleaner, safer, and more comfortable kitchen environment.

Extraction Systems

The engine behind every working canopy

A canopy only performs as well as the fan, ductwork and controls pulling air through it. Ventex designs and installs complete extraction systems fans, attenuators, dampers and controls calculated to move the right volume of air for your kitchen, without leaving it stuffy, draughty or unbearably loud.

Airflow calculated, not estimated

We calculate required airflow from your canopy’s capture area and cooking type, then select a fan and ductwork run to deliver it with an acceptable pressure drop. Get this wrong and you end up with a kitchen that’s too hot, a fan straining under load, or an extraction system that trips out mid-service.

Every system is also balanced against make-up air the replacement air coming back into the kitchen so extraction doesn’t pull doors shut, starve gas appliances of air, or drag cold draughts through the building.

System Components

What goes into a complete extraction system

Axial Fans

Compact, straightforward fans suited to shorter duct runs and lower-resistance systems, often used for smaller kitchens and takeaways.

Centrifugal Fans

Higher-pressure fans capable of handling longer ductwork runs and higher resistance, typical of larger commercial kitchens.

Roof-Mounted Fans

Positioned above roof level to keep noise and heat away from occupied spaces, and to simplify discharge point compliance.

Low-Noise Fan Sets

Selected where planning conditions, nearby residents or licensing restrictions limit the acceptable noise level from extraction plant.

Make-Up Air Systems

Supply air units that replace what's extracted, keeping the kitchen in balance and preventing doors, windows and gas appliances from being affected.

Controls & Interlocks

Standalone control panels or integration with an existing BMS, including fire suppression interlocks where a system is fitted.

Designed to satisfy planning and licensing conditions

Designed to satisfy planning and licensing conditions

Kitchen extraction fans are a common source of noise complaints and licensing conditions, particularly where a kitchen sits close to residential neighbours. We factor acoustic performance into the design from the outset fan selection, attenuator placement, and discharge point rather than treating noise as an afterthought once a complaint arrives.

FAQs

Extraction system questions, answered

How is the correct fan size worked out for my kitchen?
Fan size is calculated from the airflow rate your canopy needs, the length and resistance of the ductwork run, and any filters or attenuators in the system. We calculate this on survey rather than selecting a fan by kitchen size alone.
This is usually a sign of negative pressure, where the extraction system is removing more air than is being replaced. A make-up air system, or adjusting the balance between extract and supply, generally resolves it.
In most cases, yes. Options include acoustic attenuators in the ductwork, a lower-noise fan selection, or relocating the fan further from the discharge point, depending on what a site survey identifies as the source.
Yes. We fit standalone control panels as standard, and can also integrate extraction fans and interlocks into an existing building management system where one is already in place.
