Ductwork Installation

The part of the system nobody sees, but everybody depends on

Ductwork routes grease-laden air from your canopy to the outside safely and efficiently. Built incorrectly, it becomes a fire risk, an insurance liability and a nightmare to clean. Ventex fabricates and installs every duct run to DW172 and HVCA standards, with cleaning access built in from day one.

Built to be cleaned, not just installed

A huge proportion of kitchen extraction fires start with grease building up in ductwork that’s difficult or impossible to clean properly. We fabricate ductwork with welded or flanged joints to DW172 standard, and position access panels at every change of direction so a TR19 cleaning contractor can reach the entire run.

Where ductwork passes through fire compartment walls, floors or ceilings, we install fire-rated sections to maintain your building’s fire strategy a detail that’s often missed on older or poorly specified systems.

Ductwork Types

Construction methods we use

Welded Ductwork

Continuously welded seams for a fully sealed, grease-tight run, typically used where the highest level of leak prevention is needed.

Flanged Ductwork Sections

Bolted, gasket-sealed sections that allow easier future modification or partial replacement without disturbing the whole run.

Fire-Rated Ductwork

Fire-resisting construction for any section passing through a compartment wall, floor or ceiling, maintaining the building's fire strategy.

Access Panels & Cleaning Points

Positioned at every bend, junction and long straight run so a cleaning contractor can reach and inspect the full duct interior.

Insulated Ductwork

Fitted where duct runs pass through occupied or temperature-sensitive spaces, reducing heat transfer and condensation risk.

Flexible Connectors

Used at fan and canopy connections to absorb vibration and allow for minor movement without stressing the main ductwork run.

DW172, HVCA and TR19 how they fit together

DW172 and HVCA cover how ductwork should be built and installed. TR19 covers how it should subsequently be cleaned. A duct run built to DW172 standard with properly positioned access panels is what makes ongoing TR19 cleaning actually possible the two standards work together, not separately.

We hand over full construction documentation after every install, so your cleaning contractor and Environmental Health Officer both have what they need without a site visit to work it out from scratch.

FAQs

Ductwork questions, answered

What is DW172 and why does my ductwork need to meet it?
DW172 is the UK standard covering kitchen ventilation ductwork construction, joints, fire performance and cleaning access. Meeting it is generally required by insurers, landlords and local Environmental Health Officers before a kitchen is considered compliant.
Any section of ductwork passing through a fire compartment wall, floor or ceiling typically needs fire-rated construction to maintain the building’s fire strategy. A site survey will confirm exactly where this applies in your building.
Yes. We regularly retrofit access panels into existing ductwork runs that were installed without proper cleaning access, so a TR19 cleaning contractor can reach every section of the duct.
Yes. We regularly design ductwork routes around structural constraints, low ceilings and listed building restrictions, using smaller sectional runs or alternative routing where a straight run isn’t possible.
